How To Make Homemade Falafel Patties the Nomster Chef Way

As you know, we love playing and experimenting in the kitchen. And if you are a follower of our blog, you probably do too! Well, we’ve recently learned about a new website that helps kids like us learn how to cook and have fun in the kitchen. It’s a site called Nomster Chef and it’s geared towards kids ages 2-12. They have healthy recipes that are explained through online picture books, so even the youngest of chefs get to follow along.

The Nomster Chef site helps to promote special family bonding time in the kitchen. It gives ideas and instructions for younger kids to cook in the kitchen with a grown up, and allows for older kids to work more independently on their own.

Each recipe is fully illustrated and guided by Nate Nomster, so they are fun, engaging and easy to follow. The recipes introduce children to math, literacy and science skills, as well as other learning moments about nutrition and food culture. We find it to be much more interesting then just looking up a recipe on Pinterest!

They have all kinds of recipes available, including breakfasts, lunches, snacks and desserts….our favorite! They even have different categories that are suitable for different dietary needs like allergies. We love that because they have a lot of gluten and dairy free options that work for us!

We had a lot of fun making these Falafel Patties, and hope you do too! They are made from legumes called chickpeas. Chickpeas grow in pods, are soaked in water and then cooked. They contain a lot of healthy protein, which is great for helping to build strong muscles. Of course, we had to add an extra dose of LOVE to our falafels, so they were extra tasty!

We hope you enjoy making this recipe and a big thanks to Nomster Chef for the fun recipe ideas!

Preheat the oven to 375.

Pulse all the below ingredients in a food processor until they are combined and the mixture sticks together. (We used gluten-free flour instead of whole wheat to make them gluten-free.)

Drizzle a bit of olive oil on a cookie sheet pan and brush the pan with a pastry brush. Paint your hands with olive oil so the mixture doesn’t stick and roll 1/4 cup of mix into a ball. Smush (not too hard!) the ball down on the cookie sheet to make a patty.

Brush tops with more olive oil and put in oven for 15 minutes. Flip them and put back in oven for another 10 minutes. Then let cool.

Eat the falafel by itself, in a pita pocket or dipped in tzatziki yogurt. Yummy! It makes a great snack or lunch. Enjoy!
