Overnight Oatmeal

Now that school is back in session, morning time is becoming a bit hectic again. There’s so much to do to get ready for school. Make your bed, bathe and get dressed, brush teeth, get lunch and backpacks packed up, and of course, eat a good, healthy breakfast. We love oatmeal and many mornings our mom or dad will get up a little earlier than usual to get downstairs to start the oatmeal cooking on the stove. That means that we have to wait….and we don’t like to have to wait for food when we’re so hungry in the morning!

When we make this Overnight Oatmeal before going to bed, our bowl is in the fridge and ready to go when we wake up. We love being able to get our own breakfast in the morning, and our mom and dad like the few extra minutes of zzzzzs they get!

Chia seeds are really good for you and pack a big nutritional punch when you add them to your oatmeal.  The word “chia” means “strength” in the ancient language of the Mayan and Aztec cultures. Chia seeds are loaded with fiber, protein and calcium, which means they help make your bones and muscles strong! They also contain tryptophan, which helps you to sleep really well at night so that you wake up refreshed and ready to have a great day at school!

Wild blueberries are anti-inflammatory and have antioxidants that are great for the brain and help improve your memory. They are the perfect food to help you learn more at school. One of our favorite health teachers, Medical Medium Anthony William, is a huge fan of wild blueberries. He says they are the most powerful fruit and brain food on the planet. They are great at helping to detoxify, which means they clean out any bad toxins that might have gotten into your body. A toxin is a poison that can make us sick. Sometimes toxins get into our bodies by eating foods or smelling cleaners that may chemicals in them. Wild blueberries are like a vacuum cleaner that sucks all the dirt out of your body!
